The aim of the project is enhancing commitment of humanitarian services/volunteer services for staff and the community at large. BPDO is working to enhancement of volunteer services through different trainings and other capacity building activities at all its intervention areas. As part of this, BPDO staff contribute up to 2% of their monthly salary and through resource mobilization from private organizations and communities. Currently, a total of 1,550 communities have been supported through different packages including nutrition, medical items, scholastics materials, cloths and psychological
treatments.
BPDO believes that Community awareness creation and utilization of personal protective measures is a set of actions that persons and communities can take to help slow the spread of COVID-19 virus infections. BPDO covered a lot of towns through awareness creation. Individuals, communities, business centers, healthcare organizations, religious organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations are part of intervention areas we worked on. BPDO’s major topics that were covered during awareness creation and prevention of COVID-19 were, Know the signs and symptoms of COVID-19, Regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash your hands with soap and water, Maintain social distance with a distance of at least 2 meters between yourself and anyone, Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth before cleaning your hands, Stay at home, if you feel unhealthy please consult a health care worker, establish plans and cancel events, Self-quarantine for 14 days as recommendation.
Approaches utilized for Awareness Creation in the Prevention of COVID-19 are:
- BPDO has prepared clear and visible Banners, stickers, leaflets based on WHO and Ministry of health standards for the creation of awareness and prevention of COVID-19 using two decorated cars.
- Using new music’s and songs to make good awareness creation and prevention easily using Montarbo and sound mics to make the information accessible for all communities by traveling decorated handwashing procedures and other mandatory messages sticker cars and health professional for further elaboration and explanations for the community members about the natures of the Corona Virus Disease-19.
- Handwashing demonstration and other volunteerism activities were showed for the community in market days and during each field travels to each intervention towns with the engagement of zonal, woredas and city administration heads , city mayors, working forces, religious leaders and other accepted/known individuals participated and they showed proper practice of handwashing procedures for the community members and they transferred key messages about the COVID-19.
