BPDO is committed to improving the overall health and wellbeing of communities by delivering comprehensive, people‑centered health services to target groups while reinforcing the broader health system through innovative interventions.
With a strong track record, BPDO has successfully implemented US‑funded flagship programs in health and HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, care, and treatment. These efforts have been carried out both directly with US and in collaboration with leading international partners, including Project HOPE, Population Services International (PSI), World Learning Ethiopia (WL/E), John Snow Inc., and Pact Ethiopia.

Project Title: Health Security Activity (HSA) in 28 woredas of Amhara Region

Donor: USG (Back donor) and CCRDA/CGPP:- Active project

Project Duration: October 1, 2025-September 11, 2029.

Project sites: 28 woredas of Amhara Region in South Wollo Zone, Dessie City administrative, Oromia Special Zone, North Wollo Zone, Waghimra Zone, North Gondar, and Central Gondar

Project Description : The Health Security Activity (HSA) is a five-year USG-funded initiative implemented by Project HOPE Ethiopia and consortium members. HSA aims to reduce the impact of infectious disease outbreaks by building resilient One Health surveillance, diagnostics, and workforce development capacities. HSA services aim to improve the surveillance, detection, response, and workforce capacities in all implementation districts. This will lead to improving the well-being and quality of life of the community members and bridge the gaps in support and resources that these communities often experience. The target districts were selected based on their high burden of zoonotic disease, distributed public health infrastructure, and vulnerability to cross-border disease burden. 

Project Goal: The project aims to reduce the burden of infectious disease outbreaks by enhancing early detection and establishing a resilient, integrated One Health surveillance system

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Project Title: HIV Prevention, Testing, and Treatment Services for Key Populations Activity in Amhara Region.

Donor: USDOS/PEPFAR (Direct Award). Active project

Project Duration: October 1, 2020-December 31, 2025.

Project sites: 119 towns of the Amhara region.

Project Beneficiaries: Female sex workers (FSWs), out-of-school adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), women who engage in transactional sex, high-risk men (HRM), including clients
of FSWs and daily laborers as well as truck drivers.

Scope: Contribute to the national HIV epidemic control, addressing the 95-95-95 targets. Moreover, under this award BPDO is expected to build capacity of local implementing partners

Project Title: TB LON for Key Affected and Vulnerable Populations.

Donor: USAID (Direct Award).

Project Duration: October 1, 2023-September 2028. (Terminated on March 2025, Due to Budget Cut)

Geographical Coverage: in the Afar, Somali, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Gambella Regions.

Project Beneficiaries: The project will directly benefit 33,983 people with TB; among them, 2,379 TB/HIV co-infected persons and 4,077 children under 15 years.

Scope: The overall goal of this Local Organizations Network activity is to contribute to national and regional efforts to achieve END TB 90 (90) 90 milestones by 2025 towards the National End TB target by 2035.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Project Title: Family-Focused HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment Services in Amhara Region (Active)

Donor: USAID/Amhara Development organization (ADA)

Project Duration: October 1, 2020-December 31, 2025 

Geographical Coverage: Legambo, Woreilu, Mekaneselam, Haik and Kombolcha.

Project Beneficiaries: Children, adolescents, and adults living with HIV who are undiagnosed; newly initiated on ART; or receiving antiretroviral therapy but not achieving viral load suppression. Vulnerable children and adolescents who are less than 18 years of age, with emphasis on ages 9 to 14 years for primary HIV and violence prevention.

Scope: Contribute to local HIV epidemic control to the attainment of 95-95-95 goals in the Amhara region. The activity provides comprehensive services for CLHIV and adults living with HIV to ensure viral suppression and prevention services are being provided to adolescents who are less than 18 years old.

Project Beneficiaries: TB Key and Vulnerable Populations (KVP).

Project Title: MULU Key Population HIV Prevention

Donor: USAID/PEPFAR through PSI/E

Project Duration: October 2020-September 30, 2024 

Geographical Coverage: 4 sub-cities of Addis Ababa (Lideta, Gulelle, Yeka, and Lemi Kura)

Project Beneficiaries: Female sex workers (FSWs), out-of-school adolescent girls and young
women (AGYW), women who engage in transactional sex, high-risk men (HRM), including clients
of FSWs and daily laborers as well as truck drivers.

Scope: The project uses a combination prevention approach, which includes biomedical, behavioral, and structural interventions. Target groups include FSWs, clients of sex workers, waitresses, long-distance truck drivers, and widowed and divorced women. Project Title: Optimizing adherence for IFA/MMS supplements in Amhara region

Project Duration: September 1, 2022, to October 31, 2024

Geographical Coverage: two woredas of the Amhara Region: Dera in South Gondar and Sedie in East Gojam.

Project Beneficiaries: 45,430 (13,018 pregnant women aged 15-49 years & 32,412 adolescents)
girls aged 10-19 years).

Scope: Contribute to reducing maternal death caused by anemia, by increasing consumption of
weekly IFA supplements for adolescent girl’s age10-19 who are not pregnant and daily IFA/MMS
for supplementation for pregnant women aged 15-49 in rural Amhara region Dera and Sedie

Project Title: Reaching zero dose children in remote of Ethiopia evaluation.

Donor: Project Hope Ethiopia from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Project Duration: April 1, 2022, to August 15, 2022.

Geographical Coverage: Afar, Amhara, Addis Ababa, and Adama.

Project Beneficiaries: Zero doses of immunization in the remote areas of the indicated regions.

Project Title: HIV Epidemic Control Project

Project Duration: 01 August 2019-30 September 2020.

Geographical Coverage: 54 towns in the East Amhara region & 3 sub-cities in Addis Ababa.

Project Beneficiaries: Female sex workers (FSWs), out-of-school adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), women who engage in transactional sex, high-risk men (HRM), including clients of FSWs and daily laborers as well as truck drivers.

Scope: Contribute to the national HIV epidemic control by addressing the 90-90-90 targets. Moreover, the project strives to provide high-quality, high-impact, sustainable community-based HIV program. The project managed to reach key and priority populations through HIV testing services (16,457), linkage to HIV treatment services (1,258), SBCC (28,674) and GBV screening, counseling and referral (5,432)
